September,October 2007
Well here we are back in the land of the living after a recuperating quiet period. We have a great announcement - we are returning to play the Greyhound Hotel in St Kilda on Friday November 16th with support band Chevron Eight.
Chevron Eight hail from different parts of the country but are now a Melbourne based four piece original rock band primed and ready to rock.  Armed with a recently recorded CD, which can be heard at www.myspace.com/chevroneight Chevron Eight are working together to rock the pants off the Melbourne music scene and will be launching at the Greyhound gig. Their sound is a unique combination of solid rock guitar, infectious bass lines, angsty yet smooth lyrics and ..... not to be left out - driving drums. They are great live and will open for Piledriver who will step back onto the Greyhound stage with guitars tuned and volume set to 11 after a few well earned months off.  The Greyhound Band Room has been refurbished and now features an up graded PA plus intelligent lighting system so the Friday 16 November will be a "not to be missed" party to end all party nights.

Many thanks to our loyal supporters who came along and rocked along with us at the Dream Niteclub gig. We all had a great time and even added some new folks into our Mailing List.

We have been spending this month recording some songs for a promotional DVD. Once again the Jam Tin Recording Studio was the venue and Geoff Marquis was at the controls helping us pull some great sounds. Consequently Wayne has been working like a trojan mixing the trax and voiceover stuff and has nearly completed it.

Look out for Piledriver early September when we will be appearing at the Greyhound Hotel in St Kilda - details will be posted soon.

July, 2007

This month sees some well earned time off for PILEDRIVER, after which will see us in the recording studio around mid July to record songs for promotional and web site use. We are yet to settle exactly what songs will be recorded but, it is expected some outstanding material will eventuate. The recorded audio will replace the current live material that we have been using to promote ourselves, and also update the long overdue live version of "Down The Dustpipe" that streams on the home page of our web site. There is also live DVD footage of the band which will be edited with the songs.                                                                                   We have had a whisper of a Melbourne CBD gig July 20 so we'll post that on the web site if things are confirmed.

Well it was a spectacular night at the Peninsula Lounge to kick off the Victorian start to winter. It was wonderful to see the Quo faithful and the Kiss faithful coming out and enjoying a most entertaining evening. Thanks to you all for coming along.  (See the REVIEWS webpage for the reviews of this night)

May, 2007
(This is a review from Lee Hawkins of our May 11 gig)                                       The unlikely industrial heartland area of Cheltenham would see its Friday night slumber rudely awakened by a few hours of loud music eminating from the large Jam Tin Studios complex.
We arrived as the Deep Purple show was coming to an end, finding the venue by following our ears on this chilly Melbourne night. Minimal signage finally led to the inauspicious corridor entry to the dangerous sounding (but not even mildy intimidating) "Skull Bar".
The small bar was warm from the midroom heater and the decent crowd of Quo and Purple fans crammed into it. After catching up with the usual Piledriver fans, the band set themselves up on the minimal stage and treated us to a few blasts of Telecaster riffing from Wayne, some lead twiddling from Co and some gut-punching drums from Ron - all by way of a soundcheck of course.
At just after 10.30, the lights dimmed and the Piledriver homespun "drone" warmed up the sizable sound system. As Co kicked off "Caroline", it was clear that Piledriver had been rehearsing and were showing themselves to be match fit despite few recent live shows. The sound quality here was excellent - as was expected at a professional rehearsal studio complex - and served to highlight the great work from each and every member of the band.
The song selection remains a highlight of every Piledriver show, covering the full gamut of Quo's career from the very early "Down The Dustpipe" and "Railroad" to contemporary fodder in "Belavista Man" (which gives Co another chance to shine on lead vocals). "I Saw The Light" stayed in the set and gave the Quo officianados something to smile about, as did the typically unusual tracks like "Blue Eyed Lady".
Commendable performances included Wayne's lead work on "Railroad", "Creepin' Up On You" and "Backwater" while Andrew's lead vocals go from strength to strength (as does his stage presence). Co had also clearly been working on his solos and a 'less is more' approach worked wonders. Hunched behind the drums, Ron provides an unhurried and magically accurate rendition, even dropping in vocals on a few songs.
90 minutes passes quickly when you're standing in front of the Piledriver stage air guitaring along to some of Quo's finest moments, played with true enthusiasm and accuracy - but it would be the awesome "Big Fat Mama" that rounded out the show all too soon and the band left the stage to great applause from the positively thrilled audience.
The next Piledriver show on June 2nd is set to be a ripper, if this show is anything to go by, bring it on guys!

PILEDRIVER are returning to their  birthplace on May 11 for a high energy gig where the band started off rehearsing their show  for a year before their successful launch. The JamTin is the biggest rehearsal and recording studio in the Southern Hemisphere with bands like Jet & INXS and many other top Australian artists using this facility. The venue has a licenced bar and band room which holds 200 guests, and many acts use the Jam Tin to "showcase" themselves. The stage houses an enourmously powerful PA and is ideal for an up close and personal feel. On the night we are joined by THE DEEP PURPLE SHOW (ex-Stormbringer) which was formed late 2004 from a group of seasoned professionals that have performed in some of Australia’s most highly regarded professional outfits like Virgin Soldiers, Steeletto, Raw Diamond and the list goes on. All in all the night will be explosive, loud and a hell of a lot of fun. Hope to see you there.
March, 2007

Get ready for a large scale "Double Bill" event gig coming up at the Peninsula Lounge in Moorooduc, Victoria, on 2nd June, with two dynamic, powerful and high energy bands that are taking the country by storm with music from 70's & 80's icon bands STATUS QUO & KISS.  This gig will be loud, visual and rock the very foundations of the Lounge and is not to be missed.  KISS THISS will join PILEDRIVER at the Peninsula Lounge and the bands will be rockin' out loud and proud!

KISS THISS hail from Melbourne and are known as "The hottest tribute to the hottest band in the world".  KISS were and always will be the most spectacular rock 'n' roll show the world has ever seen and KISS THISS is the KISS tribute act that delivers on their promise to recreate the KISS concert experience. Not only do they look the part, they also sound the part and absolutely "ROCK". Check out KISS THISS at their web site KISS THISS

Well, here we are in 2007...holidays been and gone, and now back into the swing of things for a new year. We have a big gig coming up in March that we are gearing up for and it is out of Melbourne in Portland, Victoria. We are also working on a couple of shows in May and June so keep an eye on the Gigs section of this page for dates.
December, 2006
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Many thanks to all those people who have assisted us and given us encouragement throughout the year, and a special thanks to those who came to all our gigs and are now firm Piledriver friends. Looking forward to rocking out more Quo through 2007.

We had a great night at the Sphinx on Saturday 9th December, after a shaky start with the hotel's power blowing 4 times!! Once that was sorted out we really had a ball, and the crowd really got rocking and made us feel at home. Nice to get an encore after 2 hours of solid Quo material.

We are really gearing up for the show we are presenting at the Sphinx Hotel on December 9 - it promises to be a ripper. We look forward to seeing you there. The last time Status Quo were in Geelong was in 2003 - so this will break the Quo drought there and will be a lot of fun.

Thanks to all our supporters who came out on Friday night to the Dream Niteclub gig. We really enjoyed your company and playing in front of a great bunch of people. An excellent night was had by all. Twin Lizzy played up a storm as usual and gave us all a fantastic performance.

Thanks to Angus from KBR Design and Peter from QiQ - the website is back on air - Phew!

WARNING!! People intending to come and see Piledriver perform at the Sphinx in Geelong on Dec 9th, cannot be wearing denim. There is a dress code enforced at the venue.

Wayne and Andrew met with Ross and Angus from KBR Design, who are planning and creating our new-look website - stay tuned.

SPHINX HOTEL HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 9TH

Glad to see the back of September, everyone down with coughs and colds! Very quiet, however we have been solidifying our relationship with WESTSIDE TALENT and have 2 dynamite gigs locked in - one in Geelong on 18th November, and one in Portland on 24th March 2007. Be sure not to miss these shows as we are doing 2 x 50 minutes sets and will be playing full-on Status Quo!!!

We have a show with our friends TWIN LIZZY booked at the Dream Nightclub on 10th November and it will be a great night of Thin Lizzy and Status Quo music.

September, 2006
What a tragic week it has been, starting September, for Australia - two legends killed doing what they loved doing - First Steve Irwin "the Crocodile Man", and now Peter Brock, Racing Car Driver and "King of the Mountain". We are all a bit shocked and saddened by it all.

Good news - Ron has finally received his new snare drum and now has a complete DW kit - sounds awesome!

Our new Booking Agency Westside Talent has got our first booking through - in Geelong in November. More details will follow, but for now LOOK OUT GEELONG - PILEDRIVER IS COMING TO ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to us!!! Our website has been operating for just over one year now and all thanks to QiQ Hosting (UK), and to Peter Harris (Sydney) for the splendid job they are doing keeping us online and for the services they provide us. Be sure to check their link in our "Links" webpage if you are thinking of building a website.

Sharp-eyed Piledriver fans may have noticed that we have been spending the last couple of months interviewing potential band Managers, and also looking for a suitable Booking Agency to handle band bookings. Well, thanks to assistance from, well-known Melbourne Booking Agent and Band Manager, John Blanchfield, we are pleased to announce an exclusive booking arrangement has been made with WESTSIDE TALENT, which is one of the largest providers of entertainment in Australia. Westside Talent is run by Phil Galotta (former lead singer of legendary show group "The Blue Echoes") and Graeme McKee (former manager of top Australian band "Rose Tattoo"). We are very excited by our association with Westside Talent and we are really looking forward to taking our tribute to Status Quo to as many venues as we can. Details for booking Piledriver, and contacting Westside Talent are available in our "Contact Us" webpage.
